Turku - European Capital of Culture for 2011
Turku will be the European Capital of Culture in 2011 together with Tallinn. The Capital of Culture programme is the EU's most significant cultural initiative with great international attention value. As the Capital of Culture, Turku has the chance to gain unparalleled international visibility in Europe.
Turku and Tallinn will make an appearance in Helsinki
The 2011 Capitals of Culture will be guests of the City of Helsinki, and will show off their best sides in Senate Square, Esplanadi Park and the most intriguing clubs and restaurants in Helsinki on 11-13 June, 2010.
Programme
During the Capital of Culture year, Turku will showcase impressive new circus acts and other high-standard, large-scale productions, amazing visual experiences, and innovative and surprising combinations. The programme will bring together top acts from around the world, the best Finnish expertise and local gems. Naturally, many of the events are scheduled to take place during the summer season, but the dark months of winter also promise to provide events that will stir our interest and imagination. There is something happening in the Capital of Culture Turku - every day.

Visitor Centre Kulma (in English Corner) has been opened. The 2011 Corner is open to anyone on the lookout for information, a cup of coffee or unique design products. For projects included in the Capital of Culture programme, the 2011 Corner will also provide guidance, conference facilities and office space. The address is Kristiinankatu 1, Turku.
